Seven Devils Playwrights Conference

"It answers a crying need for additional play development in areas of the country that have not been served by such things in the past. It's important for American playwrights to be truly American playwrights, speaking to the entire national experience, not just that of the major urban centers, particularly on the east and west coast. The connection with the community is unparalleled in my experience… I've never been to a writers' conference that so effortlessly (and so creatively) blends the needs of writers all the way from high school age to those already well in the profession. All ages have a chance to learn from each other in a unique and remarkably generous manner."

Nestled in the rural mountain community of McCall, Idaho, the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference has developed and presented 73 new American plays since it’s inception in 2001, and has offered playwriting workshops led from some of the country’s finest playwrights including Adam Rapp, Robert Schenkkan, Lee Blessing, Richard Dresser, Eugene Lee, Sherry Kramer, Caridad Svich and John Olive.

Each June writers, directors, dramaturgs and actors from around the country gather at the Alpine Playhouse in McCall for two weeks of rehearsals and workshops that bring together a diverse group of artists, students and community members all dedicated to the development of new plays.
